Disease Information Guide:
Mumps
Complications
If left untreated, the mumps can result in causes of Orchitis in males. Orchitis is the swelling and inflammation of one or both testicles. Because the mumps is a virus, mumps-borne Orchitis can not be treated, and has the potential to cause serious damage, including sterility and testicular atrophy. Untreated cases of the mumps can also result in infections of the central nervous system (meningitis) and pancreas.
Treatment
Because Mumps is a virus, there is no real treatment. THE ONLY REAL CURE FOR THE MUMPS IS PREVENTION. Those who contract Mumps are most commonly treated with ice packs for swollen faces and acetaminophen for pain relief.
