MEASLES
The measles are a highly communicable disease that is spread through respiratory droplets. Though the measles virus was once almost wiped out in the US thanks to vaccinations, measles incidents have risen in the last decade.Children are most at risk for measlses.
Method Of Transmission
Measles are spread through the air, via droplets expelled from the respiratory tract when an infected person coughs or sneezes. If you have already had the measles or have been vaccinated, you are not at risk for contracting the measles.
Signs and Symptoms
Sypmptoms of measles do not show themselves until 8-12 days after being exposed to the virus.
-rash, appearing 3-5 days after being sick, starting at the head. It may start as discolored or solid, red, raised areas that join together.
-bloodshot eyes
-coughing,
-sensitivity to light
-fever
-muscles ache
-runny nose
-sore throat
-white spots inside the mouth
-redness/ irritation around the eys
Complications
bronchitis
encephalitis
ear infection
pneumonia
Treatment
As the measles is a virus, there is no specific treatment. Most doctors will prescribe acetiminophen, rest, and humid air. Vitamin A is generally given to children as it is an immunity boosting vitamin.
