Bio-Clean of New Jersey Decontaminates Veteran's Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C.On November 6th, 2001, Bio-Clean of New Jersey, along with its nationwide affiliate Bio-Care, was called to respond to the Veteran's Memorial Hospital in Washington D.C. to decontaminate the hospital's mail room. The hospital mail was sorted through a central mail facility that the Senator Daschel letter had passed through, exposing the VA Hospital to Anthrax. The total decontamination process included treating the mail piece by piece and washing the entire facility with Modec, a chemical and biological warfare decontaminating agent. Chlorine dioxide was used to treat the air handling system. High Efficiency Particulate Air (H.E.P.A.) scrubbers and vacuums were used to contain the deadly anthrax spores during the process. The team of six decontamination specialists worked through out the day and into the night to ensure the complete sterilization of the facility. According to the owner, Andrew Yurchuck, "We felt proud to service our country and do our part to combat terrorism. We have been preparing for this eventuality and had just received updated training for bio-spore decontamination one week before the first anthrax case was reported in Florida." Back to News Page |
